Economic Recovery in Lahaina

Vendor Applications Open for ʻUlu o Lele Marketplace

Lahaina’s commercial recovery is taking another major step forward. The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA / Hawaiian Council) announced that the official website and vendor application portal are live for ʻUlu o Lele, the interim marketplace and community gathering space situated along Front Street.

Designed to help local entrepreneurs, small business owners, and cultural practitioners return to Lahaina, ʻUlu o Lele ("Growth of Lele") offers a dedicated space to revive commercial activity and foster community connections.

Key Application Details & Timeline

Local business owners, artisans, and vendors impacted by the 2023 wildfires are encouraged to apply early.

  • Application Window: Applications are open through Monday, September 28, 2026.
  • Who Should Apply: Local retailers, food and beverage providers, cultural practitioners, farmers, and non-profit organizations seeking retail storefront or kiosk space in West Maui.
  • Priority Considerations: Preference will be given to local vendors and businesses directly displaced from Lahaina Town.
  • How to Submit: Business owners can access the vendor portal, guidelines, and application forms directly at the official ʻUlu o Lele website.

Restoring Commerce & Community Along Front Street

As the first major interim retail hub returning to the Front Street corridor, ʻUlu o Lele is planned to host dozens of local vendors alongside community gathering areas.

Beyond providing immediate commercial opportunities, the marketplace is designed to serve as an interim bridge—helping small businesses rebuild their customer base, generate revenue, and establish physical footprints while permanent commercial rebuilding continues throughout West Maui.

"Returning commerce and local vendors back to Lahaina is an essential part of our island's healing and economic resilience," noted community partners during the project launch. "ʻUlu o Lele provides a place for local families to shop, gather, and support small business owners right here at home."

Supporting West Maui's Economic Future

The relaunch of local commerce plays a critical role in supporting property values, job growth, and overall community well-being across West Maui. Initiatives like the ʻUlu o Lele Marketplace showcase how public, private, and non-profit partnerships can work together to bring vital services and economic vitality back to our town centers.

Whether you are tracking commercial developments, planning a residential purchase, or keeping up with local market trends, having clear community context makes all the difference.
