Hawaii Makes Home Ownership Easier for 1st Time Homebuyers

Governor Neil Abercrombie has declared the month of June as Home Ownership Month in Hawaii.

In addition, he recently signed a bill to make home ownership more accessible to Hawaii households by updating the Hula Mae Single Family Mortgage Loan Program.

The Hula Mae Program offers eligible “first-time” home buyers with 30-year mortgage loans at very competitive interest rates.

He has allowed broader program participation. Program features will also include assistance with down payment and closing costs. This is effective on July 1st. For more information, visit Hawaii Housing Finance & Development Corporation.

Since 1979, the Hawaii Housing Finance & Development Corp. has issued bonds totaling $1.8 billion through June 2012. This has helped more than 10,000 Hawaii families help buy their first homes.

Aloha,

Ken
