Market Update

There's been snow on Haleakala since Sunday brought by a winter storm.  It is a very rare sight for Maui!  Polipoli State Park reported snow at the 6,200 foot elevation level, possibly the lowest elevation snow has ever been recorded in the state. 

Haleakala National Park remains closed as of this morning as more winter weather is in the forecast for the summit.  This storm system is called a Kona low, where a chunk of cold, low-pressure air is separated from the cold jet stream.  Typically storms approach the islands from the South and bring strong winds, flooding and surf but this system came from the North bringing unusually cold winds. 

Yesterday the snow-capped mountain could be seen from Central Maui but today is mostly obscured by clouds.
