Market Update

In an interview conducted by Hawaii Business Magazine with renowned real estate expert and part-time Kauai resident Stefan Swanepoel he said that national residential real estate sales have remained stable over the course of the pandemic so far. 

When asked what he thought the pandemic and subsequent recession would do for sales prices and inventory in the real estate market Swanepoel seemed largely unconcerned. He said that while the country may be in a recession the pillars of residential real estate remain strong, which are buyer demand and the ability to obtain great financing. While housing inventory continues to drop across the country, Swanepoel said that problem existed well before the pandemic, and as COVID-19 subsides we will start to see those numbers come up again.

P.S. For those who have lost their jobs or had their hours greatly reduced as a result of COVID-19, the extra $600 per week provided by the federal government for pandemic relief has been widely appreciated. The State of Hawaii in an effort to prepare for the federal assistance running out passed a $635 million financial recovery package that is backed by the CARES Act.
