In case you are wondering where to go to besides the local grocery store to get our fresh local produce grown here on Maui, you can visit one of our many farmer's markets.  The Maui County Farm Bureau has a complete list and dates of all the farmers' markets around our island.

One of my favorite ones to attend is the Upcountry Farmer's Market every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.  It was voted the "Best on Maui" from 2015 - 2018.  My mother-in-law, Monique gets her favorite homemade lilikoi dressing from one of the vendors there.  Entry is free.

Another notable one to visit is the Maui Swap Meet that is held at the UH Maui Campus in Kahului every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  It costs $0.50.  I recently went and purchased some delicious mango jam from Jeff's Jams and Jellies.  He's been making his jam and jellies since 1998 and also sells seasoning and syrups as well.

Besides purchasing local fruits and veggies, I also like to get the prepared foods and the arts and crafts from our local vendors that you can only get here on Maui.

If you are unable to go to a farmer's market and need to get some local produce right away, Mana Foods in Paia is a great one to find some of our wonderful island produce.  I often go there to buy papayas, lychee, mangos, and persimmons when they are in season.

P.S. - Several new laws went into effect earlier this month in Hawaii.  One of the laws is a ban on all plastic and compostable bags.  It was created to reduce plastic waste and protect the ocean and marine life.  Don't forget to bring your reusable shopping bags with you the next time you go to the store.
