Market Update

 
According to a report from National Association of Realtors®, Lawrence Yun, home price growth slowed in most metropolitan areas during the first quarter of 2014; however, year over year increases were still quite impressive.  Read full report.

The rate of slowing is not a concern, and, in fact, it is a good sign in that it keeps affordability at high levels.  If prices were to rise too quickly, we could end up in one of the boom bust cycles such as we saw in the run up and subsequent collapse of the real estate market following the financial meltdown in 2007.

We will continue to monitor the market and let you know if we see any signs of weakness.  It is not always possible to time the market, so we generally recommend buying for the long term when you find the property that suits your needs and is within your budget.

I personally don’t think you could ever go wrong owning a home on Maui in the long run, especially when you take in to account the many benefits of having your own home and not having to pay rent.
