Market Update

While pre-travel testing is still allowing visitors from the mainland to fly to Hawaii, the restrictions for receiving negative test results are now tightening even more. Governor Ige signed another COVID-19 emergency proclamation which marks the 16th he has signed since the pandemic began. The proclamation requires all transpacific travelers to have a negative test result from a trusted travel partner before their departure for the State of Hawaii in order to bypass the 14-day quarantine. 

If this sounds like the same policy that was already in place there are some minor differences. Firstly, there are no longer going to be any testing options at the Kahului Airport. If you don’t have a negative test in hand or uploaded to the Safe Travels App before your arrival you will be asked to proceed directly into a 14-day quarantine at an approved facility. Secondly, any test results that come in after you arrive in Hawaii, even if they are negative, will not be recognized.

Make sure you are up to date on all travel protocols a few days before your trip and make sure to obtain your COVID-19 test from a trusted testing partner. Even with the new testing policy in place, the negative test result must be no older than 72 hours, which is why it’s important to get your test done early enough that you won’t be disappointed when it comes time to fly.
