Market Update

For nature lovers and adventurers there is no better place in the world than Maui to observe powerful and awe-inspiring waterfalls. Often hidden among rough terrain and jungle foliage, waterfalls continue to be one of the main attractions for people who don’t mind getting a little muddy to observe something truly spectacular. On Maui’s eastern side, there are three waterfalls that stand out among the rest.

1. Twin Falls
While this waterfall hike has become inundated with tourists over the last few years it is still worth a look. Though finding a place to park your car may be an issue. The first waterfall on this hike looks like a post card with crystalline water cascading over the rocks and foliage. There are also several other trails that lead to larger waterfalls upstream.

2. Seven Sacred Falls
By far one of the most famous waterfalls on Maui it is also one of the most remote, requiring one to drive 12 miles past Hana to access it. When the water is calm there is a series of waterfalls which empty into a series of pools that eventually lead to the ocean. Keep in mind that if the water flow is fast or if there has been frequent rain it may not be safe to go swimming in the pools.

3. Waimoku Falls
Located upriver from the Seven Sacred Falls this 400-foot-high waterfall is considered the most majestic in Maui. The trail to the waterfall is also beautiful, containing a banyan tree, a bamboo forest and even apple trees. If you are exploring Hana and the surrounding areas this waterfall should be at the top of your list.

If you have been driving through central Maui in recent months then you may have noticed that most of the abandoned sugar cane fields have been cleared to make way for a new wave of agriculture. The company responsible for this change is Mahi Pono who purchased 40,000 acres of old sugar cane fields last December. In addition to potatoes, Mahi Pono has just recently begun planting citrus, avocado and macadamia nut trees.
