Market Update

 
Living on Maui, one of my favorite family activities to do on the weekend is surfing.  My husband and fellow team member, Greg is an avid surfer and has what I would call a
"PhD in surfing".  He tells me that there's no better feeling than riding in the tube of a wave.  For those of us that are beginner surfers, I would recommend getting private surf lessons here on Maui.  You could contact Tide or Kiva Rivers from "Rivers to the Sea" surf school.  According to Frommer's, they are "one of the best surf schools on Maui".  They do private one on one, semi private, and family surf lessons.  Some of their clients include celebrities such as Zac Efron, Jake Gyllenhall, Woody Harrelson, and etc.  Feel free to visit their website at www.riverstothesea.com to book a reservation.
 
If you do not want a private lesson, you could always rent a surfboard or a paddle board from Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport.  They are located on 415 Dairy Road across from Kmart and close to the airport.  They have the biggest selection of stand up paddle boards, surfboards, equipment for kite surfing, windsurfing, and snorkeling.  To find out more information, visit www.hawaiianisland.com.  It would be a great option to rent instead of bringing a surfboard from home.  
 
For beginner surfers wanting to find gentle waves to ride, you could go to Guardrails located on Mile Market 19 off Highway 30 (Honoapiilani Highway).  The Cove Beach Park on South Kihei Road is one of my favorite surf spots for my family.  My 4 1/2 year old daughter is able to stand on a surfboard on her own there.  
 
For advanced surfers, Hookipa Beach Park located at Mile 9 on Hana Highway is one of the best places to go to for ocean sports.  It's also a world renowned spot for windsurfing.  This is a great beach to visit if you want to watch some of the best surfers when the waves are big.
