Maui Property Taxes

Hope everyone is enjoying their winter festivities! December 31st is an important date to remember to help you save money on your Maui property taxes.

 

First, it is the deadline for filing circuit breaker applications for the next fiscal year. The program provides tax relief for eligible taxpayers by offering a credit on real property taxes paid on their primary residence. To apply for the Circuit Breaker Program in Maui County, you’ll need to complete and submit an application form to the County of Maui Department of Finance Real Property Tax Division.

 

Second, December 31st is also the deadline for filing exemption claims and ownership documents. The home exemption is a tax relief program that reduces taxable assessed value by $200,000 and reclassifies property for tax rate purposes into the Homeowner class. The long term rental exemption is a real property exemption of up to $200,000 on a parcel that is occupied as a long-term rental for twelve (12) consecutive months or longer to the same tenant.
