Market Update

Hawaii encountered it's third tsunami warning in 2 1/2 years on Saturday night after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred off British Columbia.  Maui News Article

We were notified at 8:30 p.m. to evacuate all coastal areas, which only gave us a couple of hours before the first wave was anticipated to reach Maui.  At 1 a.m., the tsunami warning was changed to an advisory and at 4 a.m. it was canceled. 

Luckily, there was no major damage on Maui.  Thank you to our friends and family members from the mainland for your concern. 

Our last tsunami warning was on March 2011 after the devastating earthquake in Japan and on February 2010 after the earthquake in Chile. 

It is important to have an evacuation plan in place if you are staying in a low-lying area.  The state Civil Defense has an online evacuation zoning map tool at www.scd.hawaii.gov.
