Market Update

Construction could begin by the end of this year if permits are granted for a new Kahului hotel on the site of the former Maui Palms hotel.  The site is located next door to the Maui Beach Hotel. The plans for the new hotel include three 4-5 story buildings with a total of 140 rooms as well as a large lobby, pool and gazebo for special events. 

The former hotel, Maui Palms, was demolished in 2002.  The new owner, Peter Savio, purchased the site and the neighboring Maui Beach Hotel in 2014 and has since been planning to build a new hotel where the Maui Palms once stood. 

Peter Savio also owns the Pagoda hotel on Oahu and says the new hotel will have the same style as the Waikiki hotel.  Savio also plans to spend a couple million dollars on updating the operating Maui Beach hotel.  

Maui's primary hotel markets are South and West Maui though the central market is growing and the new hotel will aim to appeal to budget travelers and serve as a local hotel.
