Proposal 9 Update Act Now to Protect Maui

Maui’s County Council is advancing Proposal 9, a bill that would phase out short-term rentals in apartment-zoned areas, including Minatoya list condos. If passed, this could shutter West Maui vacation rentals by 2028 and the rest of the island by 2030.
We strongly oppose this measure. Experts warn it could trigger a 4% drop in Maui’s GDP, cut visitor spending by 15%, and devastate jobs, small businesses, and property values, all without solving the housing crisis.
The fight isn’t over. Amendments, exemptions, and legal challenges are still in play. But your voice is critical now.
