Excitement is building as we get closer to the October 15th launch date of Hawaii’s Pre-travel Testing Program. In preparation for this, United Airlines has not only increased the number of flights that will be available from the mainland to Hawaii, but will also start offering a rapid COVID-19 test that can be done at the airport.

United Airlines is the first to offer COVID-19 tests to passengers, and for good reason, because they are the number one provider of flights to and from Hawaii. United has partnered with a company called Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care who will actually be providing the onsite test to passengers. The testing stations will only be available in the international terminal of the San Francisco International Airport, with plans to expand to other airports in the near future.

The landmark test being administered is called the Abbot ID NOW COVID-19 test and can deliver reliable results in as little as 15 minutes. What this means for passengers is that you can have a test with a negative result on the same day that you depart for Hawaii. You can call ahead and schedule an appointment, or you can walk up to the testing center from 9am to 6pm daily.

Hawaiian Airlines will also be providing an option for travelers to get their COVID-19 test before their flight in the form of a drive-thru testing center. The drive-thru centers are located near both the Los Angeles International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport. Travelers have the option to visit the drive-thru testing center on the same day or any time within 36 hours of their flight.

P.S. Longhi’s in Wailea has been closed since March, but they are planning to reopen the restaurant for dining this coming Friday. They will also be hiring dozens of staff for both the front and back of house in preparation for the launch of the Pre-travel Testing Program that will allow many tourists to forgo the 14-day quarantine. Longhi’s will be open for dinner on Friday night from 5pm to 9pm before launching breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday.

Another restaurant that will be re-launching in the next few weeks is Fleetwoods on Front St. in Lahaina. According to restaurant managers, the plan as of right now is to fully open the restaurant on October 15th, which is the same day the Pre-travel Testing Program launches. Fleetwoods on Front St. is a landmark to the Lahaina community, and many residents are very excited it will be reopening soon.
