Market Update

In order to receive the homeowners exemption for 2017 residents must ensure that they have filed a Hawaii resident income tax return with the county.  If you have not yet, you must provide the real property assessment division with a certified copy of your 2016 N11 or N13 Hawaii resident income tax return by December 31st.

The homeowners exemption reduces assessed property value by $200,000 and taxes at the lowest rate per thousand dollars of assessed value which is $2.86.  Even if you have an exemption on file from previous years you are required to turn in your 2016 Hawaii Income tax return by the end of the year.  

Over 2,000 residents throughout the county have received notices that their homeowners exemption has been disallowed due to not filing their Hawaii resident income taxes.  It's not too late, if you qualify be sure your Hawaii resident income taxes and homeowners exemption are filed properly with the county before December 31st.
