Going green is easy with these energy saving tips from Hawaii Energy

Water heating is your home's largest energy consumer.  There are rebates and federal tax credits available to save when switching to a solar water heating system which can ultimately save you up to 40% on your electric bill.   If you already have a solar water heater a maintenance tune-up is reccomended every 3-5 years to maximize benefits.

Switching to energy-efficient lighting in your home is the quickest and easiest way to start saving.  LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs are todays best choice for energy efficient lighting.  Rather than using a filament or gas LED's move electron's around to produce light which requires a very small amount of energy.  

Switching out old appliances to Energy Star certified models will help you save on your electric bill.  Old refrigerators in particular can use twice as much energy as a new, energy-efficient model.  Washers, dryers and dishwashers should also be upgraded to save energy.  In fact, using an energy saving dishwasher will save more than hand-washing. 

The Home Efficiency Kit by Hawaii Energy is only $10 (free shipping) and can save you up to $300 annually by reducing home energy and water waste.
