Market Update


How did Maui County fare in the foreclosure-related sales for 2011?  There was a 41.3 % increase of bank owned condo sales last year when compared to 2010 with 269 units sold versus 177 units the year before.    In addition, bank owned single family sales increased as well at 37.7 % with 274 units sold last year versus 187 units in 2010.  Bank owned properties only make up a third of the real estate sales in Maui County (comprised of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai). 

According to The Maui News, lenders who stopped out-of-court foreclosures in Hawaii last May because of a controversial new law still have significant inventory of repossessed homes to sell.  Because of the new law, lenders have gradually been filing more foreclosures in court, which take longer.
