Market Update

Hundreds of thousands of people have either lost there jobs or had their hours greatly reduced in the wake of Coronavirus. The reason why the State of Hawaii was hit so hard by this pandemic, is because the majority of the economy is based around tourism. The sudden loss of work has left many Hawaii residents fearful that they will be unable to pay their rent in the coming weeks. In turn, the homeowners with no rental income coming in will be unable to pay their lenders in a timely manner. This article outlines the plight of Hawaii residents very well. 

But before panic sets in, know that there is help on the way for both homeowners and renters alike. US Senator Brian Schatz issued a statement only a few days ago that outlined relief plans for mortgages and rental agreements. You can read the entire article here to find out what you may qualify for. In addition, unemployment benefits have been greatly expanded to include extra money in each month’s payment for the next several months. A direct deposit of funds will also be coming to most families as a result of the Economic Stimulus Package which was approved by Congress late last week.

P.S. Every family is doing what they can to continue their child’s education at home, but that doesn’t mean they have to miss out on school lunch. The Hawaii DOE has plans to distribute lunches for families in need. Follow this link for pickup locations as well as details.
