Market Update


Governor David Ige has announced the implementation of a phased plan to reopen a number of non-essential businesses in an attempt to get Hawaii residents back to work and ease some of the financial burden caused by this pandemic. The new order will allow these specified businesses to reopen their doors on Thursday, May 7th after 12am. If you are planning to visit any of the reopened businesses, face coverings must be worn and proper social distancing must still be observed.

Governor Ige warned everyone that though they are not expecting a large spike in positive cases after the economy begins to reopen, it’s still something we should be prepared for. See below for a list of businesses that will reopen in Phase 1 of Governor Ige’s plan.

  • Shopping malls and retailers
  • Non-food agricultural companies, including florists
  • Astronomical observatories
  • Pet grooming services
  • Health care and social assistance, including elective surgery
  • Nonprofits that were previously not considered “essential”
  • Wholesale businesses
