What's Happening on Maui?

Lots of big news items in the Maui News this week that could have an impact on real estate on Maui.

First, there was the news that Oprah Winfrey is buying up more property on Maui to add to her 67 acres of oceanfront that she bought earlier this year in Hana. This time, she is buying up land in the Keokea area around Thompson Road in Ulupalakua (Part of the Kula District).

Second, there was the bombshell news about the State taking over control of the West Maui Aquifer and the subsequent news that the Mayor was putting a moratorium on issuing new water meters to Central and South Maui. This was followed by some dire predictions from some Real Estate agents that this could drive prices sky high.

Lastly, there was more talk about the tight real estate market and how prices of median homes had increased by about $100,000 in the last year. One of the articles, talks about how the pace of building is not keeping up with the growth on Maui.
