The Newsletter this week will be very brief since I am trying to catch up after just getting back home yesterday after a wonderful week of cruising through the Hawaiian Islands and down to Fanning Island in the Republic of Kiribati.A couple of quick reflections:
Maui truly is "No Ka Oi", the very best! It was wonderful to get back home to my Island paradise.
Kauai has to be one of the most scenic Islands in the world, and the real estate appears to have surpassed even Maui's lofty level. I could hardly believe that a modest 3 bedroom home with guest cottage and no ocean view (not on the beach, but across the street from it) was going for $2.2 million. It makes our Maui prices look extremely reasonable by comparison.
Happiness is not dependent on material possessions. The native people of Fanning Island appeared to be very content in spite of having no running water, electricity, and living in grass thatched huts with no walls or floors. Still, I am not ready to trade in all of the modern trappings that I have grown accustomed to enjoying; and in fact, it is has made me even more appreciative of many of the things that I heretofore took for granted.
