No Change in Market Direction We keep thinking that with all the negative news regarding the war, airline layoffs and bankruptcies, drop in travel, etc. that the real estate market on Maui might have slowed down; however, that has certainly not been the case so far. In fact, it appears as if March will be one of our best sales months ever.Judging by the number of appointments we have for early April and the volume of people who are seriously looking to buy, we don't foresee any diminution in sales volume during this next month. Of course, given all of the uncertainty, we are going to be keeping a close eye on the market and will let you know when and if we see a change in sentiment that could be a precursor to a change in market direction. As we have said many times, the historically low interest rates coupled with high demand from baby boomers and first time home buyers should act as a buffer for any downturn in the short term. Of course, we can't guaranty future performance either up, down, or sideways, so the best approach is to never over extend oneself. In that way you will be in a position to ride out the inevitable down cycles that sooner or later will occur. |

What a Day! (Non-Real Estate Related) This is going to be rather short because after all that I did today, I am exhausted. Started my day off as I usually do with several hours of early morning work from before sunrise to mid-morning. Knowing that I had a big day ahead of me, I only did a short 2 mile run just to get warmed up. Then, off I went with my daughter, Rachel, who is on Spring break and my younger sister, Patty, for a whale watch cruise out of Maala'ea Harbor.We saw some whales up close and personal and even had a calf do a full breach about 150 yards away from us. If you have never been on a whale watch, you owe it to yourself to take one. It is truly a fabulous experience. On to the next adventure, we jumped in the car and met up with my two other sons, Greg and Jeremy, and Greg's wife, Kristine for some surfing. Well, the last time I tried surfing was at Waikiki in 1978. Fortunately, we went to a spot called "Thousand Peaks" on the way to Lahaina where the waves were just right for me....small! After falling several times and almost ready to give up, I figured I would give it one last try. On the last wave of the day, I caught it, and with Greg at my side (he's a real pro and a great teacher) encouraging me, I stood up and found myself being propelled forward with Greg right next to me. What a thrill! And who said, you can't teach and old dog new tricks. To top off a really special day, we all went out to Sansei, one of Maui's best Japanese restaurants where we feasted on sushi and other delicacies....and here is a great tip for you. Get there before 5:00 P.M. on either Sunday or Monday and all food items are half price. Don't forget to save some room for their Apple Cobler...it is out of sight!
